Let me remind some of the key features that 2Click Update has and makes it the all-in-one system updates and maintenance app for inexperienced users.
When you launch 2Click Update it will automatically do the following things for you:
- Refresh your package list.
- Install the latest updates for your applications and system libraries.
- Remove packages that were automatically installed to satisfy dependencies for some packages that are no more needed.
- Remove packages and configuration files which are not required by any other software upon your system.
- Remove all stored archives in your cache for packages that are no longer in the repositories or that have a newer version in the repositories.
- Delete from cache the downloaded packages to free up some space.
- Optimize RAM memory.
A step-by-step guide can be found here: Improve Ubuntu Performance with 2Click Update

Howdy There,
I just downloaded the latest version of this script onto my 10.04 system – when I run the script it starts to perform a “partial” upgrade. Is it trying to upgrade my system to 10.10 or are there just some problematic packages on my 10.04 install?
Want to stick with my LTS install.
Cheers,
~Jeff
No, it will never do any distribution upgrade e.g from 10.04 to 10.10 and so on. Partial upgrade is good its not a Full upgrade… it is what makes 2Click Update differ from the classic Update manager. In other words it upgrades your packages to their next available version not your entire distribution.

What in the world makes you think that I want Shotwell installed or updated?
Your utility should ASK the user what programs to install / update.
Yes it does show you what updates are going to be installed… you can decide then if you want to continue or not. I assume that you have uninstalled ‘Shotwell’ and you saw it again when upgrades were available… you thought what the heck !?! Well unfortunately Ubuntu comes with pre-installed software that are marked as “important”. If you uninstall theme you will sooner or later come to problems with some weird dependencies. 2Click Update is just a script and uses the built-in commands of Ubuntu (like apt-get -y upgrade) and nothing special and magical… you can open it with “gedit” and see the code with your own eyes for that.
I am very sorry if my utility caused any inconvenience.
