As I stated on my previous post ( Upgrading HTC Desire to Android 2.3.4), I upgraded my stock 2.2 Android Rom (provided by HTC) with the Android 2.3.4 (Oxygen Rom 2.1.3 provided by the Oxygen community). I was never fan of custom roms even if I am foss advocate. I always believed that mobile hardware is a so closed ecosystem that a community maintained mobile operating system, is a dead end.

Μια δυνατότητα η οποία ήταν κρυμμένη στις εκδόσεις πριν το Android Linux 2.2 ήταν ο διαμοιρασμός του internet του κινητού τηλεφώνου στον υπολογιστή μας. Όσοι γνωρίζουν τι είναι το Andorid Linux, ξέρουν οτι για να μπορέσει κάποιος να ξεκλειδώσει αυτή τη δυνατότητα έπρεπε να αποκτήσει δικαιώματα “root/administrator/διαχειριστή” στο Android του, όπως συμβαίνει με όλες τις διανομές Linux. Η διαφορά βέβαια είναι οτι σε μια διανομή Linux που έχουμε εγκατεστημένη στον υπολογιστή μας είναι ότι εμείς είμαστε και η διαχειριστές του οπότε ξέροντας το password του root μπορούμε να κάνουμε αλλαγές και τροποποιήσεις στο σύστημά μας. Στα κινητά τηλέφωνα με Android Linux αυτό δεν ισχύει αφού εργοστασιακά οι πρόσβαση με root δικαιώματα είναι απενεργοποιημένη. Αυτό όμως δεν εμπόδισε τους ανεξάρτητους προγραμματιστές να αναπτύξουν επιτύχεις μεθόδους ξεκλειδώματος του root στο κινητό μας.
Απο την έκδοση 2.2 και μετά δεν απαιτείται καμία παρέμβαση στο λειτουργικό σύστημα (Android Linux) του κινητού μας για να κάνουμε κοινή χρήση του 3G internet του τηλεφώνου με τον υπολογιστή μας. Στην τελευταία έκδοση αυτή υπάρχουν δύο τρόποι διαμοιρασμού :

History, ironically, tends to repeat its self. This may be old news in political, economical or historical events but what happens in Hardware/Software industry ?.
While I was reading some articles on the web about the market share of mobile OS’s today/tomorrow, a “pattern” started to emerge before my eyes. There is something in this pattern that indicates what mobile OS will have the major market share maybe 2 years from now, or sooner. As I predict, near future of mobile phones will belong to Android Linux operating system.
Ok that may have sound like foolish… but please be patient and let me (try) explain what are the historical similarities between the war of IBM-Apple then, and Apple(iOS)-Google(Android) now and how will probably be the end of this fight over the market share pie chart.
