Mark Shuttleworth: Ubuntu 11.04, ένα άλμα προς τα εμπρός

Κατά παράδοση, ο Mark Shuttleworth, ιδρυτής της Canonical και του Ubuntu, γράφει στο προσωπικό του blog κάθε φορά που ξεκινάει μια νέα έκδοση Ubuntu αλλά και όταν ολοκληρώνεται. Ειδικότερα με την νέα έκδοση του Ubuntu 11.04 με το νέο γραφικό του περιβάλλον δεν θα μπορούσε να μην γράψει άλλωστε. Αφού μόνο και μόνο για αυτό πέρυσι τον Μάιο, “κατέβηκε” από την θέση του προέδρου της Canonical ώστε να αφιερωθεί εξολοκλήρου στο design του Ubuntu. Όλοι οι bloggers κατά καιρούς έχουν αναρωτηθεί, έχουν διαβάσει, έχουν μελετήσει τεχνικές με τις οποίες θα διατηρήσουν υψηλά ποσοστά επισκεψιμότητας στην ιστοσελίδα τους. Τεχνικές SEO, backlinks, tags, feeds κλπ είναι κάποια από τα δημοφιλή. Ευτυχώς το WordPress είναι μια πλατφόρμα blogging που έχει εσωτερικούς μηχανισμούς με αποτέλεσμα να διατηρεί την ιστοσελίδα στην πρώτη σελίδα αναζήτησης του Google. GPL, Creative Commons and human brain malwares.

Intellectual property is a term referring to a number of distinct types of creations of the mind for which property rights are recognized. Richard Stallman, the free software advocate, in his “Did You Say “Intellectual Property”? It’s a Seductive Mirage ” article argues that, although the term intellectual property is in wide use, it should be rejected altogether, because it “systematically distorts and confuses these issues, and its use was and is promoted by those who gain from this confusion.” He claims that the term “operates as a catch-all to lump together disparate laws originated separately, evolved differently, cover different activities, have different rules, and raise different public policy issues.

Personally, I love the idea of sharing as quoted in GPL :

Forced to be away for a wile

Dear Android Linux,

Please forgive me for not writing you for so long. I was busy with some stuff in my life but mostly with an interesting incident that is rare in blogosphare.

This phenomena is called Cybersquatting. Cybersquatting is registering a domain name with bad faith intent to profit from the goodwill of a trademark belonging to someone else. The cybersquatter then offers to sell the domain to the person or company who owns a trademark contained within the name at an inflated price. In my occasion that’s what happened. While I was searching for a domain registrant, whith the best deal that fits my needs, I was shocked when I saw that somebody has already registered .com for my Cerebrux website 1-2 days ago…

What the #%@& man… why somebody has the need to re-register a domain that already exists. Can you imagine somebody that creates a new blog/website and names it yahoo.com, Microsoft.com, Google.com or you name it…. what’s the point? It’s just stupid ! He doesn’t even know what is the term I call Cerebrux ! This type if human behavior is due to an infected brain by a malware.(this yet also doesn’t exist, I made it up)

I did register http://www.cerebrux.net, migrated my entire website, fixed some old stuff, renewed the theme, registered a logo, fixed old links, redirected old domain to the new one… A lot of sensitive work that forced me to be away from you…

The good news: I prefere the .net domain over .com. It’s more cerebrux kind of thing. Also my Ubuntu stickers arrived yeaterday, and they are awesome!

Open source is just the best thing that humanity achieved in 60 years of software enginiering. Every aspect of our interaction with the internet is powered by an Open Source project.

Optimization day

Dear Android Linux,

What I’ve realized after a week that you have been upgraded to “Froyo” is that your battery life is hugely extended ! This is awesome cause I love touching you ! (oh.. this may have sound perverted)

After many many…. I don’t realy remember… days I’ve had some time to fix and optimize some things in your parent web site. I am preparing an article (will soon be published) that will be interesting and may bring some flames… but thats the beauty of the community…

Also, I’ve enabled the “Buzz” feature in your parent and added a link in the “Follow me” section in the right side bar to my Google Buzz Profile so people can now follow me also with just their gmail account and get updates about new posts and articles if they don’t have Twitter or a Facebook account.

Android Linux: WordPress 1.3 διαθέσιμο με νέα χαρακτηριστικά

Όπως είχα γράψει σε παλιότερο post, το WordPress for Android αποτελεί ιδανική λύση για όσους διαθέτουν κινητό με λειτουργικό σύστημα Android Linux και ιστολόγιο στημένο σε WordPress.com ή WordPress.org. Με το εκπληκτικό αυτό εργαλείο μπορείτε να αναρτάτε καινούρια άρθρα, να ελέγχεται τα σχόλια που αφήνουν οι αναγνώστες και όλα αυτά από το κινητό σας. Η προγραμματιστές του WordPress ανακοίνωσαν σήμερα την νέα έκδοση (1.3) του λογισμικού τους διαθέσιμη για εγκατάσταση από το Android Market και αναφέρθηκαν στα καινούρια χαρακτηριστικά του. OpenVAS… το NESSUS όπως θα έπρεπε να είναι!

Το Nessus αδιαμφισβήτητα αποτελεί το πρωτοπόρο ανιχνευτή ασφαλείας σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο. Διαθέτει μηχανισμό εντοπισμού και ανάλυση τρωτών σημείων της ασφάλειας των συστημάτων. Το Nessus μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί από έναν απλό χρήστη που θέλει να ελέγξει αν το δίκτυό του είναι ασφαλές μέχρι και εντός μιας ολόκληρης επιχείρησης και των δικτύων της. Παρόλο που η έκδοση 3 διανέμεται μέσω εμπορικής άδειας χρήσης, η έκδοση 2 είναι ακόμα διαθέσιμη μέσω της άδειας χρήσης GPL.

Online Antivirus Scan για τα αρχεία και τις ιστοσελίδες σας

Σε ένα μικτό περιβάλλον εργασίας (Linux-Windows), δεν είναι λίγες οι φορές που με την ανταλλαγή αρχείων το ένα από τα δύο λειτουργικά συστήματα να προσβάλλεται από κάποιο ιό. Έτσι αν για παράδειγμα δουλεύετε σε περιβάλλον Linux και πάρετε κάποιο αρχείο που είναι μολυσμένο χωρίς να το ξέρετε, είναι σίγουρο ότι δεν πρόκειται να προσβληθεί από αυτό το αρχείο το Linux. Αν το μεταφέρετε σε περιβάλλον Windows τότε θα συμβεί μια από τις παρακάτω περιπτώσεις:

  • Έχετε ενημερωμένο antivirus που θα αντιληφθεί την παρουσία του ιού και  θα το διαγράψει
  • Δεν έχετε ενημερωμένο antivirus και το σύστημά σας πρόκειται να μολυνθεί
