uTorrent Linux edition: Οδηγός εγκατάστασης και χρήσης σε Linux

Μια από τις πιο δημοφιλής ασχολίες των χρηστών, είναι το κατέβασμα αρχείων μέσω torrent server. Δεν θα ασχοληθώ εδώ με την ηθική πλευρά του ζητήματος. Η ίδια η τεχνολογία (πρωτόκολλο) torrent είναι μια από τις καλύτερες τεχνολογίες που ανακαλύφθηκαν την περασμένη 10ετία άσχετα αν χρησιμοποιείται κατά 90% για την διακίνηση πειρατικού λογισμικού, μουσικής και βίντεο.

Το δημοφιλέστερο λογισμικό για το κατέβασμα αρχείων torrent είναι το uTorrent. Να σημειώσω εδώ ότι στην πραγματικότητα το πρόγραμμα αυτό ονομάζεται μTorrent με το ελληνικό μικρό “μ” από το microTorrent αλλά λόγο “ασχετοσύνης” κατέληξε να διαβάζεται uTorrent με το αγγλικό μικρό “u” δηλαδή… youTorrent :x

Τέλος πάντων… Στο θέμα μας τώρα…

Το uTorrent υποστήριζε μόνο το Windows και οι χρήστες Linux αναγκάζονταν ή να το χρησιμοποιούν μέσω WINE ή τελικά να διαλέξουν κάποια άλλη εφαρμογή για να διαχειρίζονται αρχεία τύπου .torrent. μέχρι που τελικά έβγαλαν έκδοση και για Linux. Το θέμα είναι ότι η έκδοση για Linux δεν διαθέτει ακόμα γραφικό περιβάλλον… Να το θέσω διαφορετικά… διαθέτει γραφικό περιβάλλον αλλά είναι προσβάσιμο μόνο από τον browser σας. Μπερδευτήκατε :? Πριν συνεχίσετε σας συστήνω να διαβάσετε πρώτα το άρθρο “Τα αγαπημένα σας Site ως εφαρμογές στο Desktop σας” διότι θα χρησιμοποιήσουμε το Prism σε συνδυασμό με το uTorrent. GPL, Creative Commons and human brain malwares.

Intellectual property is a term referring to a number of distinct types of creations of the mind for which property rights are recognized. Richard Stallman, the free software advocate, in his “Did You Say “Intellectual Property”? It’s a Seductive Mirage ” article argues that, although the term intellectual property is in wide use, it should be rejected altogether, because it “systematically distorts and confuses these issues, and its use was and is promoted by those who gain from this confusion.” He claims that the term “operates as a catch-all to lump together disparate laws originated separately, evolved differently, cover different activities, have different rules, and raise different public policy issues.

Personally, I love the idea of sharing as quoted in GPL :

Any web server can fail…

Dear Android Linux,

It’s almost two months now that some things in my life are not as I would wish they are… Anyhow… shit happens… thats the beauty of ” life”.FrustratedAfter being forced to be away for migrating my website (http://www.cerebrux.net) to a new domain and server, fixing database, upgrading WordPress plugins, changing web site theme and reading tons of “how to’s” just to make it better, today I couldn’t login to the server and the website was down !

Apparently, a hard-disk failure is the reason why it’s down:

 

We are currently running a file system check and optimization on the Server. One of the server disk drives started reporting a ‘read only file system’ error so we had to run this process.
Server will start operating normally again in 2-3 hours. Please do not submit and tickets about this issue and do not increase our work load as we are fully dedicated in resolving this problem. We thank you for your patience and understanding

I hope that, they can soon resolve the issue … wish me (and my server) luck !

Σύντομο λεξικό ορολογίας για νέους χρήστες στο Linux

Το Linux με την αυξανόμενη δημοτικότητα που παρουσιάζει τα τελευταία χρόνια, οδηγεί τους νέους χρήστες σε άγνωστα μονοπάτια και έξω απο τα στεγανά στα οποία ήταν συνηθισμένοι τόσα χρόνια. Ο νέος χρήστης καλείται να κατανοήσει και να αφομοιώσει ορολογίες άγνωστες και συνάμα “περίεργες” για τα μέχρι τώρα δεδομένα που είχε στο μυαλό του για τον κόσμο των υπολογιστικών συστημάτων. After a month of delay, for testing purposes, I am releasing the new version of 2Click Update (2cu) and 2cuCORE. This version is a result of collaboration and contribution by the community. After publishing the 5.5.version of 2click Update, it got an unexpected attention by the community. Many referral links, reviews, code contribution, translations and some emails pointing in one general question:

2click Update v5.5: Going Lightning with Axel

I am pleased to announce that 2click Update version 5.5 of 5.X series is out. In this major release the entire structure of code has changed. The code is structured in a modular way so that every feature is just a module. Also a new feature is available that will automatically boost the downloading of upgrades in a way that traditional apt-get cannot. The new module is called Speed-apt.

Behind the scenes…

Not so long ago in WebUpd8 I came across with Axel, a simple piece of software that tries to accelerate HTTP/FTP downloading process by using multiple connections for one file. It can use multiple mirrors for a download. Axel has no dependencies and is lightweight, so it might be useful as a wget clone on byte-critical systems. Continue reading →

OpenVAS… το NESSUS όπως θα έπρεπε να είναι!

Το Nessus αδιαμφισβήτητα αποτελεί το πρωτοπόρο ανιχνευτή ασφαλείας σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο. Διαθέτει μηχανισμό εντοπισμού και ανάλυση τρωτών σημείων της ασφάλειας των συστημάτων. Το Nessus μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί από έναν απλό χρήστη που θέλει να ελέγξει αν το δίκτυό του είναι ασφαλές μέχρι και εντός μιας ολόκληρης επιχείρησης και των δικτύων της. Παρόλο που η έκδοση 3 διανέμεται μέσω εμπορικής άδειας χρήσης, η έκδοση 2 είναι ακόμα διαθέσιμη μέσω της άδειας χρήσης GPL.
